COVENANT was established by God and is administered by God. The Covenant’s fulfillment is Abraham’s obligation.
a) EVERLASTING COVENANT
Gen. 17:7 – I will establish My covenant as an everlasting covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you.
1. Nation of Israel was set apart
2. Divine revelation to the prophets
3. Nation will be a part of a covenant
b) ETERNAL COVENANT
Deut 10:16 – Circumcise your hearts, therefore, and do not be stiff-necked any longer.
Circumcise your heart and make a conscious decision to love God above all else. Don’t be stubborn. Be willing to submit to God’s authority.
c) GRACIOUS COVENANT
Deut 30: 6 – The LORD your God will circumcise your hearts and the hearts of your descendants, so that you may love him with all your heart and with all your soul, and live.
God’s sovereign grace helps you to circumcise your heart so that you might love God and live eternally with Him. The Holy Spirit will convict you of sin and console you.
d) DEMANDING COVENANT
Jer 4:4 Circumcise yourselves to the Lord, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.
Circumcise yourself and remove your heart’s foreskins, which have become insensitive to the WORD.
Jer 9: 24 – But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.
Act 7: 51 – You stiff-necked people! Your hearts and ears are still uncircumcised. You are just like your ancestors: You always resist the Holy Spirit! -Heart has been far from me.
Rom 9: 28, 29 – For a person is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is true circumcision something external and physical. 29 Rather, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly, and real circumcision is a matter of the heart—it is spiritual and not literal. Such a person receives praise not from others but from God.’
